EU auto industry faces major setback as Trump's 25% tariffs take effect

European car makers are bracing for impact as U.S. President Donald Trump's 25 percent tariffs on imported cars, announced in late March, came into effect on Thursday. The move has already disrupted global supply chains, with major European manufacturers expressing concern over the new measures. In response, Euro-American automaker Stellantis laid off hundreds of American workers and announced temporary closures of two plants—one in Canada and another in Mexico. European auto manufacturers are now urging the European Union to take action in response to the U.S. tariffs to protect the industry’s interests. Florent Marchais tells us more.
