Cardinal Prevost becomes Pope Leo XIV, history's first American pontiff

Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost from the United States was elected pope on Thursday, becoming the first American pontiff in history. He will be known as Pope Leo XIV. In his first address as pope from the balcony of St. Peter's Basilica, he called for peace and honoured the memory of the late Pope Francis, addressing a cheering crowd.
