While Fortune Still Blooms

This quatrain by Omar Khayyam says:

“Now that the flower of your fortune is in full bloom,
Why is your hand idle, empty of the wine cup?
Drink, for time is a treacherous enemy,
And such a day as this is hard to find.”

اکنون که گل سعادتت پربار است
دست تو ز جام می چرا بیکار است؟

مِی خور که زمانه دشمنی غدار است
دریافتن روز چنین دشوار است

In this poem, Khayyam speaks directly to the heart, reminding us to cherish the rare moments when life smiles upon us.
When our “flower of fortune” blooms, when joy, love, or success are within reach, that is not the time for hesitation or fear.

He urges us to drink, not only the wine of grapes, but the wine of presence, of gratitude, of being fully alive.
Because time, as he warns, is a “treacherous enemy.”
It steals quietly, it changes everything, and it never gives back what it takes.

So when the light of happiness touches us, even for a moment, Khayyam says: Don’t let it pass unused.
Enjoy it, live it, share it, for days like this are gifts that even eternity cannot promise again.

It’s a call to awaken, to hold life with both hands while it’s still warm.
