The police chief in Ahmedabad said there appears to be no survivors from the plane crash in India which was heading to London Gatwick, according to reports from the AFP and AP news agencies.

The Air India flight was carrying 242 people and crashed shortly after take-off.

Videos show scenes of devastation in the residential area where the plane came down, crashing into accommodation used by doctors.
