Why Israel needs the US to take out Iran's underground Fordo nuclear facility | DW News
Israel says it is degrading Iran's nuclear capability with airstrikes on facilities across the country, but so far, Iran's secretive Fordo fuel enrichment plant has remained intact. It's buried deep underground and is considered virtually unreachable by conventional aerial weapons. But if the US decides to enter the conflict, its so-called bunker buster bomb could change that. Israel would need multiple 'bunker buster' US-made bombs to destroy Iran's nuclear enrichment facility, an expert tells DW. The United States is the only country in possession of the GBU-57, better known as a 'bunker buster' or Massive Ordnance Penetrator (MOP) bombs, which would also require US pilots flying a B-2 stealth bomber.
