A growing need to deter any Russian threat, and potentially without US support, has highlighted the urgency NATO members like the UK face in boosting defense spending. But in Britain, that necessity comes against a backdrop of weak economic growth, rising borrowing costs and public ambivalence, possibly requiring major tradeoffs by Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
