Mexico’s Sinaloa cartel in crisis amid prolonged infighting and growing rival threats

Mexico's Sinaloa Cartel, once the country's most powerful drug trafficking organisation, is now embroiled in a bitter internal conflict. Two factions, Los Chapitos and Los Mayos, have been locked in a nine-month battle for control, weakening the cartel's grip. Recent developments suggest Los Chapitos may be seeking an alliance with their former rivals, the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, in a desperate bid to gain ground. Meanwhile, the Mexican government, under pressure from the Trump administration, has intensified efforts to dismantle the cartel and stem the flow of fentanyl into the United States. The ongoing violence has taken a heavy toll on civilians, sparking protests after the deaths of children caught in the crossfire.
