US President Trump's signature bill has cleared its final hurdle in the House of Representatives with lawmakers voting 218 to 214 in favour. Two Republicans voted against it.

House speaker Mike Johnson said the president's so-called "Big Beautiful bill" adds trillions to the deficit and cuts health care and social programs. Its passage was delayed by the Democrat Hakeem Jeffries who gave a record-breaking eight-and-a-half hour speech, in which he called the bill an "assault" on Americans.
