Russia strikes hotel in southern Ukraine as US aid suspension raises defence fears
Emergency services in Kryvyi Rih, southern Ukraine, struggled to rescue wounded individuals from a hotel destroyed by a Russian Iskander ballistic missile. Ukrainian, British, and American volunteers staying at the hotel survived, marking the second such attack in the city. In Kharkiv, a Russian drone strike on a residential building led to further civilian rescues. Ukraine faces over 100 nightly attacks, with most intercepted, but the suspension of US military aid and intelligence sharing raises fears of weakened defences. Washington demands Ukraine sign a mining deal and engage in peace talks, prompting President Zelenskyy to agree despite initial reluctance. He expressed hope for progress in US-Ukraine talks, while concerns grow over the impact of delayed aid on frontline pressure and civilian safety. Many view the US move as pushing for peace on Washington’s terms.
