US aid cuts leave Somali children at risk as malnutrition and disease surge

Child malnutrition in Somalia is worsening due to severe cuts in US foreign aid.
The Trump administration's decision to cancel over 80% of USAID programmes, citing 'wasteful spending', has exacerbated an already dire humanitarian situation.
Aid workers warn that thousands of children are at risk as vital services like vaccinations and medical supplies dwindle.
The cuts come at a time when Somali communities are grappling with the impacts of drought, climate change and loss of livelihoods.
Health workers report seeing over 60 patients daily, many from remote areas and camps.
There are growing fears that diseases like whooping cough and polio could spread if immunisation programmes are interrupted.
Humanitarian organisations are sounding the alarm, emphasising that more assistance is urgently needed to combat rising malnutrition rates across Somalia and other parts of Africa.
