Funeral held for Palestinian-American killed in West Bank settler violence

Two Palestinian men, Sayfullah Musallet, a Palestinian-American visitor from Florida, and Mohamed Al Shalabi, were laid to rest in the occupied West Bank village of al-Mazraa al-Sharqiyyah after being killed by Israeli settlers during a weekend attack. Sayfullah, known for his ice cream shop’s warmth, bled to death as settlers blocked medics, while Mohamed’s body—bearing bruises and a gunshot wound—was found hours later.
Their joint funeral procession mourned what villagers called state-sanctioned violence, with residents describing armed settlers ambushing Palestinians on their own land.
UN data underscores the crisis: 740 settler attacks in 2025’s first half left 500 injured, June marking a 20-year peak.
"They’re allowed to shoot freely," one mourner spat, as grief mixed with fury over Israel’s systemic impunity. The coffins, draped in Palestinian flags, embodied a grim truth: in the occupied West Bank, simply being Palestinian is enough to make you a target.
Musallet’s grieving family has now demanded that the US State Department investigate Saif’s killing as an extrajudicial execution of an American citizen.
