Record-setting rodent sniffing out landmines and saving lives in Cambodia | DW News

With its extraordinary sense of smell, the African giant pouched rat has become an unlikely hero of mine clearing in Cambodia. After almost three decades of war and unrest ended in 1998, it was estimated that around 4 to 6 million land mines and other unexploded munitions littered the countryside. Today, they continue to cause death and injury.
