Marking Roma Genocide Remembrance Day for Sinti and Roma | DW News

In 1956, Germany’s Court of Justice ruled that the Nazis had deported Sinti and Roma as a crime prevention measure. It took until 1982 to admit the truth: it was genocide. On August 2nd, we mark Roma Genocide Remembrance Day for Sinti and Roma. Survivors like Christian Pfeil had to fight for years for recognition and compensation. Some are still waiting.
