Why is Germany leaving approved former Afghan local staff waiting in the lurch? | DW News

More than 2,000 Afghans in Pakistan are still waiting for resettlement to Germany, despite being promised a visa. They were part of a now-suspended programme for at-risk Afghans. Pakistani Security forces are now raiding their guesthouses in Islamabad and have reportedly deported dozens back to Afghanistan. Officials in Berlin say they're trying to support the group but wouldn't commit to accepting them. Pakistan has been expelling Afghan refugees en masse since 2023, a move seen as putting pressure on the Taliban.
