Northern Pakistan flooding: Search for survivors continues as death toll rises

In northern Pakistan, rescuers are searching for survivors from flash flooding caused by five days of heavy rain.
The unprecedented monsoon has caused century-record devastation in the Swat Valley, burying entire villages under metres of mud.
Hundreds are dead and countless are missing, with survivors losing all belongings and lacking clean water or shelter.
Despite the scale of the crisis, no government aid has yet reached the worst-hit areas after nearly five days, leaving families feeling completely abandoned.
Poor planning and institutionalised corruption are widely blamed for the inadequate infrastructure that exacerbated the disaster.
This catastrophe underscores the severe threat climate change poses to Pakistan, highlighting an urgent need for resilient construction and sustainable planning to mitigate future effects.
