Israeli defense minister approves Gaza City takeover plan as 50,000 reservists to be drafted

Israeli media reports say the country's Defense Minister Israel Katz has approved the military's plan to take over Gaza City. Aid groups fear a new offensive will only deepen the already desperate humanitarian situation.

Meanwhile, mediators are awaiting Israel's official response to a new ceasefire proposal put forward by Egypt and Qatar. Hamas has already accepted the proposal, which reportedly includes a 60-day ceasefire and a phased release of Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners.
