UN-backed IPC officially declares famine in Gaza City | DW News

The UN-backed IPC – the main global hunger monitor – has officially declared famine in Gaza City, with half a million people living in "catastrophic conditions".

The IPC, which is responsible for monitoring world hunger, said that after 22 months of war, a quarter of the Gazan population are facing starvation, destitution and death while more than half the population is facing large gaps in their food supply.

Conditions are expected to get even worse with the report saying the famine will likely expand to Deir-al-Balah and Khan Younis by the end of September.
