Mali returns ancient manuscripts to Timbuktu | DW News

Thousands of ancient manuscripts have been returned to Mali's historic city of Timbuktu. Mali's government hastily evacuated the priceless documents to the capital Bamako in 2013, when Al Qaeda-linked militants occupied the area. Some of the manuscripts date back to the 13th century, and survived thanks to the bravery of their local custodians.
