'Children are dead,' says Minneapolis mayor after school shooting

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, visibly angry, spoke after a gunman opened fire on students attending Mass at a Minneapolis Catholic school, authorities said. Two children were killed, aged 8 and 10 years old, and 17 others were wounded, according to officials.

School shootings occur on a regular basis in the U.S., spurring ongoing debates about gun laws and school safety. There have been more than 140 such incidents so far this year, according to the K-12 School Shooting Database.
