Thirty years of friendship between filmmaker Sofia Coppola and fashion designer Marc Jacobs provided the backbone of Coppola’s debut documentary "Marc by Sofia," which premiered at the Venice Film Festival on September 2.

Coppola said she hadn't thought of trying her hand at documentary making, but the offer to profile her friend was too good to pass up.
