Soon after Angela Rayner's resignation, the prime minister "began a radical reshuffle" with a complete rewiring of his cabinet.
The cabinet reshuffle wasn't meant to happen now, Sky's political editor Beth Rigby explains, as Starmer had hoped to ring the changes later in the autumn.
While the timing has not been under his control, Starmer's team insist he's using this moment to try to "invigorate" his cabinet.
