Another prime minister gone in France. François Bayrou submitted his resignation Tuesday after losing a confidence vote in parliament. He gambled on a budget demanding over €40 billion in savings. The plan froze welfare, cut civil-service jobs, and scrapped two public holidays. President Emmanuel Macron named Sebastien Lecornu France’s new prime minister, a longtime ally, to pick up the mantle of trying to pass the budget through a divided parliament.
