Second day of UNGA: World leaders address the 80th UN General Assembly

Syria's president has used his first address at the UN General Assembly to call for the lifting of all remaining international sanctions imposed against the Assad regime. It was the first time in nearly 60 years that a Syrian leader has spoken at the gathering of world leaders in New York. Iran and Ukraine’s presidents were also key speakers on Day Two of the annual meeting. But for Ahmed al Sharaa of Syria, this was an historic moment.

Al Jazeera’s Hashem Ahelbarra reports from UN headquarters.
