Smugglers in Mexico use TikTok to attract migrants as border crossings grow riskier and costly

Migrants in Mexico’s Ciudad Juarez await their chance to cross into the US, relying on smugglers amid tighter border controls. Rising costs and increased surveillance make crossings riskier. Smugglers now use TikTok to attract clients, claiming high success rates. The UN estimates hundreds of thousands attempt the journey annually. Many migrants, fleeing danger, face long waits in safe houses. If successful, they join the few who make it across. For others, the journey ends in detention or deportation.
