Why some think this comet could conceal alien handiwork | DW News
Astronomers around the world are closely tracking a newly discovered comet that has sparked speculation its origins may be connected to extra-terrestrial life.
The 3i-ATLAS comet was discovered in July of this year, when it was observed by a telescope in Chile. A few of the comet's characteristics -- such as its chemical composition -- are considered unusual by some scientists. 3i-ATLAS is only the third interstellar object known to have entered our solar system. Astronomers say the comet's trajectory poses no threat to Earth.
