UN backs Trump's Gaza peace plan: How are Israel and Hamas reacting? | DW News
The United Nations Security Council has endorsed the second phase of a US peace plan for Gaza.
Thirteen countries voted in favour of the resolution, with only China and Russia abstaining. The plan calls for a transitional authority in Gaza, nominally headed by US President Donald Trump, as well as an international force to demilitarize the territory. It also envisions a possible path towards an independent Palestinian state.
Observers say rebuilding Gaza will be a huge undertaking. The number of damaged buildings there has risen sharply since the start of Israel's war against Hamas. According to UN data, by summer 2025 more than 90 percent of all residential buildings in Gaza had been at least partially damaged.
