Pope Leo arrives in Lebanon with a message of hope and peace amid regional unrest
Pope Leo has arrived in Lebanon, becoming the fourth roman catholic pontiff to visit the country.
His trip comes as Lebanon faces the possibility of renewed conflict after repeated Israeli bombing, despite a ceasefire agreed a year ago.
He's set to meet with political leaders representing the country's major religious sects.
He'll also travel the country meeting members of Lebanon's large Christian community.
The pontiff says he's completing a mission his predecessor Pope Francis hoped to fulfil - bringing what he calls a message of 'hope and peace in the Middle East'.
On his way to Lebanon, Pope Leo said that the Vatican continues to support a two-state solution for Israel and Palestine.
Al Jazeera’s Ali Hashem reports from Beirut.
