Syria drought worsens: Farmers and shepherds struggle as crops fail and dams run dry
Syria is enduring one of its worst droughts in decades, with severely low rainfall and rising temperatures. This has caused wheat harvests to drop by 40% and pushed fodder prices up, forcing herders to sell livestock at a loss.
Critical water reservoirs and dams are operating at just a fraction of their capacity, creating severe shortages. The crisis is pushing rural families to migrate and worsening food supplies in a country already devastated by years of conflict. Farmers and shepherds report this is the driest they have ever seen, deepening an already severe humanitarian crisis.
