How Ozempic and Wegovy became globally recognized brands to treat obesity | DW News
For years, the standard medical advice to treat obesity was to eat less and to exercise more. But new drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy have become globally recognized brands, because they offer an alternative - and for many, an easier - way to lose weight.
Now, the World Health Organization is endorsing those drugs – referred to as GLP-1 therapies – as effective treatments for obesity. It says the condition should be treated as a chronic, relapsing disease, but emphasizes that medication is not the only solution.
