Home Office announces crackdown on illegal working in the gig economy ahead of landmark summit
Company bosses hiring gig economy workers in sectors such as construction, food delivery and beauty salons, could face up to five years in prison if they fail to check if their employees can legally work in the UK, the Home Office says.
However, the Conservatives say these plans are just "copied and pasted" from the measured they introduced when they were in power.
This comes as Labour will host an international summit on tackling people-smuggling gangs, chaired by the Home Secretary, Yvette Cooper.
