Trump tariffs: ‘Liberation Day’ plan puts markets on high alert

Trump has arrived at the White House’s Rose Garden to make a highly anticipated announcement, giving his first detailed overview of the reciprocal tariff programme. He claims that the tariffs will create a “hard reset” on US industry, ultimately leading to a stronger economy and lower prices for US consumers. Trump also asserts that the new policy will cut trade tariffs and barriers to half of the rates other countries charge the US.
