Refugee arrivals drop on Balkan route, but reports of violence persist

The number of refugees and migrants using the Balkan route has dropped significantly, with Frontex reporting a 75% decline—from nearly 50,000 in the first half of 2023 to just 12,000 last year. Despite the decrease, disturbing reports of violence and hostility against those attempting to cross the Turkish-Bulgarian border persist.
