Unease in the Midlands as impact of Trump's tariffs begin to be felt

UK carmaker Jaguar Land Rover says it is "pausing" shipments to the US as it works out a strategy to deal with Donald Trump's 25% tariffs on car imports to the US.

It is just another example of the fallout the tariffs are having on both the global economy and local communities, with car workers and those involved in the supply chain nervous about their jobs.

The US president announced a wave of trade tariffs this week, with the UK hit by a base rate 10% charge on all goods imported into the US.

That triggered global turmoil on the markets, with the FTSE 100 recording its worst day of trading since the start of the pandemic.
