Pope Francis appears before crowds in Vatican after hospital release

The Pope appeared before cheering crowds, making his first public appearance in a wheelchair at the Vatican just two weeks after being discharged from the hospital.

At 88 years old, Pope Francis had spent five weeks in Rome's Gemelli Hospital receiving treatment for a life-threatening case of double pneumonia.

In a surprise move, the Pope entered St. Peter's Square just before noon local time, following a mass marking the Catholic Church's Jubilee year.
