Pope Francis, who served as the leader of the Catholic Church from 2013 to 2025, has died at the age of 88.

The pope took over from Benedict XVI, who became the first pontiff to resign from his post as head of the Vatican as a result of ill health in 2013.

Pope Francis was admitted to Rome's Gemelli hospital on 14 February - after battling a bout of bronchitis for more than a week - where he was diagnosed with bilateral pneumonia.
