Incoming German Foreign Minister Wadephul: 'We will stand with Ukraine' | DW News
Germany's conservative CDU party has approved plans to form a coalition government with the center-left Social Democrats. The CDU has also chosen seven cabinet members to be sworn in next week. Johann Wadephul is the CDU choice for foreign minister. An experienced lawyer and foreign policy expert, he's a close ally and key advisor of incoming chancellor Friedrich Merz. He's also a former soldier and is considered to be a strong supporter of Ukraine. He's already accompanied Friedrich Merz on foreign trips, including to Kyiv in December. DW's Chief Political Editor Michaela Küfner has been talking to Germany's likely next foreign minister.
